Yoga was kind of one of those things that caught me totally by surprise around the turn of the century when my mom talked me into doing a Rodney Yee yoga video with her over Christmas break. I was always one of those guys who loved sports, but could barely touch my kneecaps since my hamstrings were tight as dry wood–thank you genetics and years of neglect. Needless to say, I was shocked when I realized that even after years of lifting weights and running and playing tennis, my unnatural attempts at downward-facing dog left my arms shaking after a few breaths.
It wasn’t long before I bought my first Gaiam yoga mat, my own Rodney Yee DVD, and Yoga for Dummies book (a great place to begin, by the way) and started practicing on my own at home. Let me just say, yoga books are my weakness (well, books in general, but especially yoga books) and my yoga library continues to grow on a daily basis. I suppose there could be worse things to be addicted to…
During my last year of law school in 2007 I started Daily Cup of Yoga as my personal online universe to document my discovery of the yogic arts. I honestly never contemplated that I would see Daily Cup of Yoga end up on top blog listings let alone see my name make lists of bloggers making a difference in fitness, health, and happiness. How cool!
Although sharing my own insights has been great, over the years I’ve made the acquaintance of numerous online yogis and happiness experts who shared a similar passion and desire to share their thoughts about yoga and healthy living. I express my personal thanks to all these amazing guest contributors who continue to make Daily Cup of Yoga an informative and enlightening destination for the online yoga community. Check out the guest post submission guidelines if you’d like to contribute.
Feel free to join the discussion in the blog comments, connect on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, or get in touch through the contact page.
Thanks for reading!
Good Things & Namaste 🙂

Love the site! so many helpful links of all types. I really enjoy the mixture of posts that you have, dealing with exactly the things that you say in your description. It’s refreshing to see such diversity. I love it 😀 oh yea, and thanks for the link!
Elsie – Thanks for stopping by! I’m glad you like the site. Blogging is sort of an up and down affair for me, but I do enjoy it when I have a few spare minutes. And, by the way, I love your site too. Talk about great pictures, and what better place than Yoga Kula to pick up tips on how to improve my headstand splits (although I don’t do mine with leggings:)
Hello!
I have to say thank you for the link, too! And you have really done your homework on all things yoga – it is going to provide me with hours and hours of happy reading.
This blog is exactly what the yoga sangha needs! Any site that has anything to do with yoga should link here!

Hi! How are you?
My name is Julie and I was reading Daily Cup of Yoga blog and absolutely love it! Wanted to tell you about the Nalini Method…thought it might be of interest to you!
The Nalini Method is a NY based program that is an amazing blend of yoga, Pilates, aerobics, ballet and strength training in a very East meets West manner…Rupa, the founder, is very upbeat, knowledgeable and truly gifted…but even better, since we all can be in NY…
Rupa has just launched iPod download-able fitness workouts, “Nalini Now”..quick (only 15-20 min), convenient and a great workout for everyone! Perfect whether you’re at home, on vacation or in between events!
With three different podcasts, Nalini Now makes sure to target the upper, lower and core parts of the body!
Would love for you to check out her site…www.nalinimethod.com
Also…thought you might love these eco-friendly, zen inspired yoga/pilates mats…beinjoy.com
Would love to get your thoughts!
All the best,
Julie

I just found your wonderful blog! Thank you so much for it and the time you put into providing it.
Namaste, Lisa
I wanted to reply to Julie Van Deale’s post. At your recommendation, I tried Nalini Method studio in New York City. I absolutely LOVED the class- it is a great workout in an hour. I left the class feeling longer and leaner (not to mention incredibly sore the next day!)
I recommend this class 100% to anyone that lives or works in the NY area….it is so unique, and totally worth the time!
For those that do not live in NYC I also recommend the podcasts…I tried them as well, and you feel like you are in the class! A great workout as well.
Go on to the website to see more, http://www.nalinimethod.com
what a great title for a site.. sweet and you have great resources and offer such diversity – great yoga. looking fwd to more.

Hello,
Really nice site and very informative, lots of cool new places to go that I haven’t seen or heard of before.
We sell Yoga & Spiritually Inspired Jewelry. Would you consider adding a link to our site in your Yoga Websites area on the right side of your blog? That would be very appreciated, also it would help out if you could use the words Yoga Jewelry for the actual link to our site.
Thanks and Namaste,
Mason-

Hello there,
I design hair accessories and have perfected a revolutionary hair clip, the Zannclip. It may be hard to believe but they are the perfect Yoga hair clip, as you can lean your head back etc etc and no “bumb” so your head doesn’t have to lean to one side or the other and/or, more common, have redo your updo when changing to a lying down position… Seriously, you can even sleep in it it’s so comfortable! And they are incredibly secure- they don’t slide out! Check out the “PRESS” tab on my website to see some reviews. They come in 24k gold plate, Platinum plate, and also in an array of colors. I currently sell to Barneys NY and it was recently featured in Glamour Magazine “the better hair holder”. I’d like to send you some samples in the hopes that you may mention it on your blog- only if you love it of course. Thoughts? Address? Whatever. I’m confident you will love it. I just want to get it in your hands. Let me know how. Check it out on zannclip.com and watch the instructional videos, then pick the color and size you want. Of course, not sure if you have long hair but I thought I’d give you a try- you can always give it to a long haired yogi friend to test out!? 🙂
Thanks and best, Suzanne

Hi, Brian.

Bob,
Sorry about the slow response. Your comment went to spam for some reason.
I’m still keeping my head down in Baghdad for a little longer. Things were crazy busy for a while. Still had time for yoga, just not much time for blogging.
I am looking forward to playing some tennis when I get home. Loved your yoga/tennis poem. We may be cut out of the same mold. Thanks for dropping a note!
Brian
No problem, Brian. Look forward to seeing more blogs whenever you get back into it.
I’m glad you liked “Yoga Tennis”. It does kind of sum it all up for me, so much so that I’ve put it at the very end of my e-book as a “Postscript”.

I am new to the blogging world and am blown away by the variety and depth of your site. You seem to have screened well for appropriate, safe teaching videos in addition to amusing articles. I am striving for lyrical musing on weekly themes that inspire my lesson plans in a woman’s prison and at a Veterans Center. In addition, each week I post a free PDF of the class to encourage other trauma sensitive classes or for home practice. Come watch my site evolve!
Thanks for stopping by Martha! I did check out your website and especially enjoyed reading through some of your PDF lesson plans. Keep up the great blogging!
Hi Brian,
I’d love to send you some information about a great book from a Seattle-based yoga instructor, but I don’t want to hijack your site by just posting the information here. Would there be an email address where I can send you some information? I think it would be a compelling read for your viewers, and for you too! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your blog! I’m Joselyn from the non-profit EarthTones. I’m also writing to let you know about a fabulous musical compilation album, “Yoga Revolution”, featuring Krishna Das alongside Sting, and many musical icons. The CD was released yesterday, but the real story is that all proceeds benefit the Yoga Health Foundation’s fitness programming for underserved youth. If you’d like more information, or would like to feature this project, please go to http://earthtones.org/category/blog. Thanks so much and look forward to speaking with you soon! I’m at joselyn@earthtones.org.
Blessings,
Joselyn
Do you have the way to subscribe by an email option configured through your rss feedburner option? If not, that is a great way for your yoga peeps to keep up to date on your bloggings! Thanks!
Gaileee
Hi Gaileee! Great suggestion!! I realized I’d neglected my RSS/Email subscription options, but you can now receive e-mail updates by clicking on the letter icon at the top of the page. Namaste! ~ Brian

Hello Brian… I stumbled across your ‘Daily Cup of Yoga’ not too long ago, but I’m already becoming quite a fan! I’m aready receiving your newsletters and updates and I’m quite enjoying them, so please keep up the good work!!
I was also hoping that I could introduce myself to you, and not just myself but also where I live and work. My name is Stephen and I’m writing to you from a very wild, very beautiful part of Costa Rica called the Osa Peninsula, which is where I live. The Osa is probably best known for being the place that National Geographic Magazine named as “the most biologically intense place on Earth.” I’m writing to you because I’m also the manager of a beautiful new yoga retreat center that opened up here on the Osa just in January of this year, called Blue Osa. You can check us out on our website at http://www.blueosa.com, and I really hope that you do!
We just finished our first ‘high season’ a couple of weeks ago (rainy season here begins in May) and I’m happy to say that thus far the public response from the few groups that we’ve had this year has been phenominal. We’re now really looking forward to seeing what the future will bring, and that’s why I’m hoping- now that we’re here- to get our name more ‘out there’, see if I can get some more press and basically just make some more ‘friends’ here in the online world of yoga.
That being said, do you do link exchanges and, if so, would you be interested in engaging in a link exchange between ‘Daily Cup of Yoga’ to Blue Osa? We’re really looking to get our name more known out there, and I realize I can’t do that without the help of some friends here in the online world. I’m really enjoying coming to your site, and I look forward to continuing to do so in the future. I can’t think of a friend I’d rather have for Blue Osa than you and youe ‘Daily Cup of Yoga”!
With thanks for your time, Brian… and with best wishes for the future…
Stephen Lagan
Hi Brian,
I came across your blog and wanted to send you a quick note about our charitable clothing line that emphasizes positivity and healthy living.
A little about the project. Hug Life.
In a nutshell, I created a lifestyle/fitness line of apparel called Hug Life revolving around a theme of positivity even during times of despair and hardship. We started as a mission to raise money for the the Wellness Community during the 2007 Revlon Run Walk. Our clients were often active in pilates, yoga along with individuals who also thought it was a simple yet, profound message. Now it’s back in 2010 as a full lifestyle brand focusing on eco-friendly, and ultimately inspiring clothing lines made available through our online retail channel.
We picked up some amazing lifestyle and yoga lines that share our same mantra and are doing our best to raise money for the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society. We’re currently donating 50% of all sales of our signature Hug Life Logo tank tops and Tshirts towards the charity.
Please feel free to visit our sites below to learn about our mission as we’d simply love for the opportunity to be featured on your blog.
Don’t hesitate to contact me any time directly via email or mobile at 510 847 9800.
Thank you in advance and have a great remainder of the week!

Hi Brian!
I was wondering if I could get an e-mail address from you? Dark PR represents the traveling fitness, yoga and spa vacation- Escape to Shape- and would love to send you more information so that you could possibly write about it on your blog!
Please let me know, thanks

Great blog Brian! Some many people “randomly” stubble upon Yoga that one wonders if it’s at all random. Sometimes one seeks out what one needs.
Keep it up!

Yoga’s an amazing release.
Hi there 🙂
My name is Sahara Starr and I am about to release my first rock album.
It’s a culmination of years of personal effort and I have spent my life’s savings to produce it myself. If you’re interested, please check out a sample at http://Sahara.ws < one of my tracks plays there automatically so please turn up your speakers (it may take a moment to start playing).
I am looking for partners to help me promote my album. I am willing to donate a portion of the revenues to a charity of your choice and/or give the funds directly back to you in the form of commissions.
Additionally, I'd be willing to consider doing some free photo modeling or video spokesperson work for your company, if you have that need for any products or services related to your website. I would do this in exchange for your support, such as announcing my album on your site using the animation you see at the address above or a banner I could make to your specifications. Also, if you are amenable to it, perhaps we could somehow include an announcement in any email correspondence you have with your user/member base – however it would be done, we could discuss a revenue split on any reasonable basis. 🙂
Finally, when you go to my site, you will see a really cool CD animation. I have the ability to create this custom animation for any artist and if you\'d like to resell that service and earn more commissions, we can discuss that as well. As you will see, the CD booklet for my album is 16 pages, but I can create an animation like that one for 4, 8, 12, 16, or 20 pages, all custom made for any artist, producer or record label.
Thanks for reading this and feel free to contact me any time at Sahara@Starr.ws
Warmest regards,
Sahara Starr

Hello,
GDI is giving away $1,000 per day on top of the normal cash bonues and residual income potential.
This is the hottest and most established fast income opportunity on the planet – sounds cliche, but it’s true. GDI is in their 11th year and is Inc500 listed.

Hi Brian,
Love your blog. Have been following it for a while now and really like the effort and info you put in it. Thank-you. It’s inspired me to set up my own blog (I’m a yoga teacher in East London). It’s called Urban Yoga Monkey because that’s what I am! Maybe take a look if you get a min? http://www.urbanyogamonkey.com
Would be great to connect with you, I’ll try you on Twitter too
Thanks so much

Hi Brian.. Just stumbled on your blog and love it. I have a weakness for yoga books too! Look forward to reading your posts.
Barbara
There are some attention-grabbing closing dates on this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There may be some validity however I’ll take maintain opinion till I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we want extra! Added to FeedBurner as nicely
I bought this book as an Amazon suggestion to another book I was purchasing for my spouse as a gift. This book was an inexpensive “add-on” to what I was already buying (Contact Yoga) so I bought it. I was totally disappointed and if I can find the time I’m going to return this one.
My husband and I love to practice yoga and we’ve been wanting to find truly good books with more ‘partner’ yoga poses. This one touts 75 postures, but in reality it’s only a few ‘beginner’ poses shown from various angles.
If you’re really into yoga then don’t waste your money on this book.
Hi Brian – Do you have a favourite yoga book right now? Would love to hear what it is…
Very best,
James

Yoga is a kind of exercise that combines breathing exercises, yoga positions, and mindfulness. The practice of mindfulness involves concentrating your attention immediately. Yoga participants frequently employ breathing and yoga positions to help the mind relax. Yoga for children can help children and adults become more active, flexible, and thoughtful, which will improve their overall well-being! Yoga fosters a secure, adaptable, and inclusive atmosphere for creativity, physical movement that allows everyone to succeed. Yoga may be included in the school day at any moment. Consider the Always Live Yoga’s supporter aims and then choose a set time of day to combine the exercises on a regularly scheduled basis. It was simpler.
